 Metal Adzes. Koi pae purchased on January 7, 1887 from Keoni Kaai of S. Pahoehoe, S. Kona for $1.00. He used it for a long time in his work on canoes and said it was the style of adze he used for all his rough work. (Emerson) Length: tip to bevel 6.4 cm; bevel to haft 6.4 cm; bevel depth 0.96 cm. Blade width: tip 5.4 cm; bevel 6.0 cm; haft 5.7 cm. Straight, wide cutting edge. Handle length 63.5 cm. 6.4 mm hole at bevel. The hau (Hibiscus tiliaceuas) lashing cord is protected from the iron blade by the stem of a ti (Cordyline terminalis) leaf. Figure 113. (Summers)
