Comments:
 Metal Adzes. Koi papa ku lauhulu purchased at Kahunaaina's house in S. Pahoehoe, S. Kona, Hawaii on December 28, 1886 from Keoni Kaai who lives near there, for 0.85 cents. It was used in smoothing off the outside of a canoe. It was made by his grandfather, Honaulu, a kahuna kalai waa, canoe maker in the time of Liholiho, Kamehameha II, and used later by his father Mahiai. The iron is secured to a hau (Hibiscus tiliaceus) wood handle with ili hau (Hibiscus tiliaceus) fiber cordage, protected by the stem of the ki (Cordyline terminalis) leaf. (Emerson) Length: tip to bevel 11.5 cm; bevel to haft 12.1 cm; bevel depth 0.31-0.64 cm. Blade width: tip 10.2 cm; bevel 11.5 cm; haft 11.5 cm. Crescent edge. Handle length 63.5 cm. Figure 114.
