Comments:
 Woooden Adzes. Koi alahee made by Keoni Kaai of Pahoehoe, S. Kona and was sold to Emerson on January 19, 1887 for 0.50 cemts. Such adzes were formerly used for trimming the wiliwili (Erythrina sandwicensis) wood ama, outrigger, of a canoe, for which purpose a stone adze would not answer. The blade is of alahee wood and the handle is of hau, lashing is of ilihau. (Emerson) Hafted adze with blade made from alahee wood. Length of blade 14 cm; width at head 3.0 cm; width at center 3.2 cm; width at cutting edge 2.9 cm; bevel depth 13 mm. Handle length 56.5 cm. Figure 117. (Summers)
