Comments:
 This makau is made of pearl shell and has darkened with age and use. This hook was found in Pukapuka, in the Cook Islands, where this form is more common. Some of the original olona (Touchardia latifolia) cordage remains attached to the shank, and a museum catalogue number has been printed on one side of the fishhook. Figure 142. (Summers)
