Comments:
 Miscellaneous Hooks and Lures. Makau lawia honu - turtle hook bought in May 1885 from an old fisherman in Kailua, Hawaii. When a turtle is seen, the canoe is brought as near to it as it can, then the fisherman watching gets his hook under one of the turtle's flippers and then pulls to haul it in. (Emerson) An unbarbed, iron hook 4.3 cm long lashed to a quava-wood shank 11.85 cm long, diameter 0.9 cm. Lashings made with olona cord. Brigham described it as having been used for turtles (Brigham 1892:2:102). Figure 154. (Summers)
