Comments:
 Uhiuhi wood newa bought from Pila Poheepali of Kailua, Hawaii on June 5, 1885. Newas like this one were suspended from the neck by a cord with a slip knot, so that they could be instantly brought into use. They were concealed by the kihei and used by robbers and assassins for striking down thei victims. (Emerson) A 3-ply olona cord 65 cm long is fastened to it. Length 24.1 cm, maximum width 13.7 cm, weight 1021 g. Figure 211. (Summers) Apparently carved from a piece of knotty wood and the design is conforming to its natural shape. Natural medial basal groove improved to delineate bi-lobar basal region. It is a well-balanced weapon. (Draeger 1977: OP 23)
