Comments:
This hat is made of loulu, fan palm (Pritchardia spp.). The leaves were prepared, stripped and woven as a single piece known as the Kona style. The center of the crown, called the piko, is made up of three piko designs. The hat is woven in the maka oeno twill weave with four large sections of ekeeke, herringbone twill weave. The first two sections of ekeeke weave make up a majority of the sides of the crown. The iwipuhi twill weave is used in between the ekeeke sections. The other two sections of ekeeke make up a large portion of the brim. The iwipuhi twill is also used in between these sections.
