Comments:
This hat is made of lau hala (Pandanus tectorius). The leaves were prepared, stripped and woven as a single piece known as the Kona style. The center of the crown, called the piko, is made up of a single piko design. The rest of the hat is woven in the maka oeno twill weave with three sections of twill patterned weave and three sections on ekeeke, herringbone twill. Two sections of patterned weave separated by a section on ekeeke, appears on the sides of the crown. Two sections of ekeeke weave separated by a section of patterned twill weave appears on the brim.
