Papale ie. This hat is made of pua ko, sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum) tassel. The stem of the inflorescence was stripped, plaited into a long braid and sewn together to form the hat. The openwork pattern was woven in the middle of the braid to create the hat's delicate design. The hatband imitates wheat stalks, using pig bristle and other materials in its construction.
