Papale ie. This hat is made of pua ko, sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum) tassel. The stem of the inflorescence was stripped, plaited into a long braid and sewn together to form the hat. The openwork pattern in the middle of the braid and the double scalloped edge on one side was woven to create the hat's delicate design. It also has a hatband of elaborate design made from the leaves of the sugar cane.
