Papale ie. This hat is made of pua ko, sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum) tassel. The stem of the inflorescence was stripped, plaited into a long braid and sewn together to form the hat. A fancy edge was woven on one side of the braid to create the elaborate design. The hatband, woven with the same material, is two toned and has an intricately patterned surface. The hat had a paper lining on the inside crown.
