The center of the crown, called the piko, is made up of a rectangluar check woven, maka moena, piece. The rest of the hat is woven in the maka oeno twill weave. The hat has a Haole koa seed hatband at the base of the crown. A melampus shell lei is also stitched down to the crown and brim of the hat. Green raffia is stitched to the crown in a leaf pattern to accent the two lei. An elastic chin strap is stitched to the interior of the hat.
