This hat is made of lau hala (Pandanus tectorius). The leaves were prepared, stripped and woven in the style of a coconut hat. It has a haku lei made of lau hala rosettes, club moss, baby's breath, uki grass and bound together with raffia. Both hat and lei was made by the donor. She was taught this style, circa 1930, when she was 13 years old, by Tamar Aona Akana of Kona.
