This hat is made of lau hala (Pandanus tectorius). The leaves were prepared, stripped and woven as a single piece known as the Kona style. The top of the crown has broken off from the rest of the hat. The center of the crown, known as the piko, is made of two piko designs. The hat is entirely woven in maka oeno, twill weave. A thin band of pattern weave is seen on the side of the crown. The brim has two borders of braided looped lau hala that overlap.
