Comments:
 This makau is made of human bone. It follows a typical Hawaiian form with an incurved point and vertical outer barb. A museum catalogue number has been printed on one side of the fishhook. A line of olona (Touchardia latifolia) is still attached to the top of the shank. This kind of hook is called makau iwi kanaka.
