Papale ie. This hat is made of pua ko, sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum) tassel and peacock quills. The hatband is made of lau ko, sugar cane leaves. The tassels were prepared, stripped and woven into a long braid and sewn together to form the hat. Split peacock quills were used to embellish the surface of the braid creating an elaborate design. The hatband is made of prepared sugar cane leaves, which have a high sheen quality. The strips are arranged in an overlapping loop design. The hat was collected by Dr. Emory from Mrs. E. J. Walker in November of 1920.
