Feather, plant (olona)
23.8 x 138 cm
This ahuula fragment was purchased from Mrs. Dora McCrea for $225. It originally came from her great uncle, Thomas Hood, Dean of Argyle and the Isles. A friend may have given him a cape and his wife might have cut it up to suit the style of the day. It is made up of solid yellow oo feathers. With closer inspection, red iiwi feathers can be seen under the yellow oo. Its net backing is made of olona (Touchardia latifolia) fiber.
