Comments:
This pohaku kui ai is of the knobbed type, the most common style found throughout the islands. The piece is made from close-grained basalt rock and is shaped so that the knob on top is held as the user pounds and kneads the poi. The neck tapers out into the wider body, and the bottom is rounded off on the sides. This pounder was found in Kuliouou on Oahu, April 15, 1950.
