General Information

COMMON NAMES: Eyeshadow Cardinalfish, Narrowstripe Cardinalfish, Narrow-stripe Cardinalfish, One-lined Cardinalfish

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Tuamotu; n. to s.Japan; s. to Australs

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore, reef-flat

KEY FEATURES: To 10cmSL. Pale grey, or pale grey above and golden on lower sides; single black midside stripe, tapering to rear; single black spot on tailbase entirely ABOVE the dark stripe. Fins clear, 1st Dorsal dark anteriorly.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Bridled Cardinalfish (Apogon frenatus) has black spot on line of black stripe (vs. clearly above line of the stripe).
