General Information

COMMON NAMES: Trumpetfish, Asian Trumpetfish, Chinese Trumpet, Trumpetfish; German Trompetenfisch; French Poisson-trompette

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Tātāvere (RR), Rārā‘i (AT), Tūpoupou (MK PK), Tāverovero (MT), Pāpā (AK), Kōhaki (TS TW), Aniuniu (MH); Other Polynesian - Auapa Tohe Tupou (TAH); COMMENT: Mauke: Tūpoupou means "to bow the head", as this fish does.

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE s.Africa - Rapanui, Hawai‘i - Panama; n. to Japan; s. to Lord Howe

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Common S.Group and N.Group. PLUS:; Marine, near-shore

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Eaten sometimes in South.

KEY FEATURES: To 80cm SL.
