General Information

COMMON NAMES: Rippled Rockskipper, Coral Blenny, Smooth-lipped Blenny; German Doppelbinden-Kammzähner; French Blennie à Rides

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Panako (RR AK), Panako Ta‘areva (MG), Kanako (AT MK), Kaniko (MT), Kalaea Panako (TS), Karaea Panako (TW), Kakatua? (PK)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Tuamotus; n. to s.Japan; s. to Lord Howe - Rapa

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore; Common along the waterline grazing on rock surfaces and hiding in limestone and beachrock pools and cavities.

KEY FEATURES: To 14cm SL.(RM91) [ 17cm - GBR] - large blenny. One of several rockskippers but wide dark grey bands with a pale central line are distinctive of the male. Female bands less conspicuous and somewhat spectacled.
