Status:
SiteType: The site consissts of an inadvertantly-found human burial with possible organic burial goods, beneath the River-Nimitz Redevelopment Housing Complex at the corner of River Street and Nimitz Highway. C14 dating of the remains suggest a late pre-contact deposition of the individual in what would have been an estuarian/tidal environment nearby the traditional village of Kou; a 35-45 year old male judging from osteo analysis. Of special note was the preservation of the brain matter inside the human cranium. Five post-depositional historical features consisting mostly of late l800-early 1900 trash were located immediately above. Site revisited_6/30/89, condition poor; 6/10/92, destroyed. Site is now beneath the River-Nimitz Recdvelopment Project building's foundation.
